Frequently Asked Questions:

What is 2x2?

2x2 is a workout program designed to promote holistic growth in mind, body, and soul. We provide daily prompts in all three areas through workouts, curated educational content (podcasts, YouTube videos, articles, blog posts, etc.), and spiritual formation practices (Bible reading plans, journal prompts, Scripture memory, and prayer exercises). All of this happens in the context of being connected to other men on the same journey, who provide the accountability you need to keep going. Through community message boards and workout tracking, we help provide you with the support you need to persevere. We’re in the business of calling others up, not out.

How is 2x2 different from other workout or devotional apps?
2x2 is different in three primary ways:

  1. It doesn’t end. 2x2 is subscription-based, delivering fresh workouts, curated content, and spiritual formation exercises every day.

  2. It’s a one-stop shop for holistic growth. Our aim is to provide you with an opportunity to grow in some way, every day.

  3. Progress doesn’t depend on perfection. Most programs require near 100% adherence to see results. With 2x2, even completing one daily prompt consistently adds up to meaningful growth.

We like to think of it in baseball terms: even batting one for three over the long haul produces incredible results. We do our very best to present you with new content daily; nothing is recycled except a few benchmark workouts for tracking progress.

What does “training the whole person—mind, body, and soul” actually mean?
Think of a well-designed exercise program: it is intentional, balanced, and progressive. It ensures all the big rocks are accounted for—strength, power, endurance—and that as many boxes as possible are checked. We take the same approach not only to the body but also to the mind and soul. The result is an intentional, balanced, and progressive “diet” of content for the mind and practices for cultivating the soul. One day you may be strengthening your body with squats, your mind with a writing exercise, and your soul with guided prayer.

Who is 2x2 for? (age, fitness level, faith background)
2x2 is designed primarily for men ages 18–35 who want to grow in fitness, faith, and mental strength. That said, men outside this range are welcome to join. Our workouts can be adjusted to fit beginners or advanced athletes, and our spiritual content can benefit both someone new to the Bible and the seasoned Christian. What matters most is not your starting point, but your willingness to keep showing up and growing.

Is this program beginner-friendly?
Yes. 2x2 is intentionally structured so a beginner can step right in and get started. Workouts are autoregulated, allowing you to scale up or down as needed. The key is consistency, not perfection.

Do I need to be in shape already to start?
No. All you need is humility and an awareness of your limits. Our workouts can be autoregulated to suit your current fitness level. If you have any medical conditions or limitations, we recommend consulting with a qualified professional for clearance and modifications.

Do I need to be a Christian to benefit from 2x2?
While the “soul” content of 2x2 is rooted in the Bible and Christian teaching, the principles of discipline, community, and intentional growth are valuable for any man seeking to grow. Non-Christians will still benefit from the fitness training, the mind content, and even the structure and reflection offered in the spiritual practices. That said, our community is primarily Christian, and much of the language and encouragement will reflect that.

Can women use 2x2, or is it designed only for men?
Right now, 2x2 is built specifically for men. Our content, community, and accountability structures are intentionally designed to foster male growth and brotherhood. However, we absolutely hope to expand in the future and create a 2x2 Women program that meets the unique needs of women on a similar journey.

Can I join at any time?
Yes! Our program does not have a beginning or end point. Each workout can be progressed or regressed to fit your needs and current training status. Our goal with the base program is to provide a sustainable training framework that helps you develop a lifelong foundation of fitness, preparing you for anything life throws at you. Additionally, our spiritual formation practices typically consist of reading through a book of the Bible from start to finish. If you join in the middle of a book, we recommend spending a little time reading the earlier chapters to understand the context. We do not primarily reuse material outside of our “benchmark workouts,” so everything you encounter will have a fresh feel.

How much time does each day’s content take?
Time varies by day and category. Workouts typically take 30–60 minutes, while mind and soul content usually takes 15–45 minutes. Our goal is not to add time you don’t have, but to help you redeem the time you do have. When we honestly audit our days, we all find wasted moments. If you don’t think you have time, ask yourself: What does my morning routine look like? What do I do on my commute? How do I spend my evenings? On days when you can’t do all three prompts, be intentional in choosing which one fits best.

Is this program more about fitness or faith—or both equally?
2x2 is designed to train the whole person—mind, body, and soul—so the balance is fluid and adaptable to your needs. Each day includes all three elements: a physical workout, a mind prompt, and a soul prompt. Some seasons of life you may lean more heavily into the fitness side (especially if you’re already plugged into a Bible study at church). Other seasons, the spiritual or intellectual prompts may be what you need most. The key is that we provide consistent opportunities in all three areas, so you never have to wonder what to do next—whether that’s in the gym, with your spiritual disciplines, or in growing your mental faculties. You always have a plan.

How is the “mind” portion different from just reading articles online?
Our “mind” content is a carefully balanced system for cultivating both IQ and EQ. We use a six-tier system of prompts, each focused on one quality we believe essential for intellectual and emotional development: silence, reading, speaking/conversation, listening, writing, and lived experiences. Each month, you’ll receive prompts in all six areas, across a variety of topics, designed to keep your growth balanced and well-rounded.

Can I do the workouts at home, or do I need a gym?
While we recommend at least a basic gym membership, our workouts are designed so a simple home setup is sufficient. Every workout can be modified to fit your available equipment and space.

Do I need special equipment?
No. We primarily utilize basic free weights (barbells, dumbbells, resistance bands, etc.) and bodyweight exercises.

What if I miss a day—can I catch up?
Absolutely. We build in a catch-up/carryover day each week to give you time to make up workouts, content, or spiritual formation exercises. However, our expectation is not perfect consistency—that’s nearly impossible. Even if you miss a prompt or two, picking back up with the present day and resuming consistency will bring the best results. Don’t stress about a missed day. Content will remain available on your calendar so you can look back and catch up if you choose.

Is there a community aspect, or is it just individual?
2x2’s very name reflects the idea of being sent out together. Our goal is to provide not just quality programming but also a community to share it with. You’ll find elements of community in message boards, workout results, and leaderboards. In the future, we hope to build local and regional groups for in-person meetups and group messaging.

Can I invite a friend or accountability partner?
We highly encourage it! Consistency and endurance are much easier when you’re not going alone. We want you to have as much support as possible, with different perspectives to sharpen your growth.
